ABOUT US

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church is a community of faith, seeking to learn from God's Word and the life of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Grace Covenant is part of the larger network of churches and presbyteries that make up the Presbyterian Church (USA). Our church family is blessed with a diversity of members actively sharing their gifts and experiences.

Hospitality and warmth are typical experiences upon arrival. This mission-minded congregation is full of love, welcoming compassion, and faith. Whether serving in the soup kitchen, hosting GAIHN families, teaching, leading worship, mending a roof, loading shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, sharing a meal, lifting our voices in song, or shaking the hand of a long time friend or a first tme visitor, you will undoubtedly feel the warmth of peace and grace from those around you.

Who are we? We are followers of Jesus Christ committed to missional living, seeking to glorify God in all that we do. We are brothers and sisters bound together with a desire to hear and serve God's call. We are a community of teachers sharing our experiences with each other to gain new perspectives and to deepen our understanding of God's activity in our lives. We are the body of Christ reaching out to each other and to you to share the peace and the good news that is Jesus Christ.

We invite you to come for a worship service or activity. Our office is open for a visit, as well. We look forward to meeting you.

OUR HISTORY

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church was first organized as a mission of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Greenville in 1961. Thirty-two charter members gathered in a borrowed bus shed on the grounds of Mauldin Elementary School. In January, 1962, the church became known as the Fourth Presbyterian Chapel. It soon moved to larger quarters in the Hollingsworth Construction s Company building on Laurens Road. By December, 1962 it became apparent that the Church would soon become independent of Fourth Presbyterian Church and the congregation selected the name Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.

In late 1962 construction was begun on the first building on a 7.5-acre site on Laurens Road which had been purchased by Enoree Presbytery. On February 17, 1963, the Church was officially organized by the Presbytery and 32 charter members were enrolled. In the spring of 1975 the Session established a task force to study the present and future needs of the Church. By this time the rapid expansion of the church resulted in a the critical taxation of the Church’s facilities. As a result of the study and recommendations, a building committee was appointed and an architect selected to design a new sanctuary with additional educational and office space. The first service was held in the sanctuary on November 4, 1979.

In 2002 the greeting room was added to provide visitors with a space to gather and fellowship before and after Church services.Once again, GCPC realized that the facility was limiting the Church’s ability to effectively carry out the missions it was called to serve. In 2009 the Session approved the next building campaign, called “grow”. After review of the building plans, it was determined to break the campaign into 3 phases. Phase 1 was completed on September 5th, 2010.
